Guest Post: A Healthy Twist On Entertaining

Hi guys! I have a great guest post for you today which combines two things I absolutely love: eating healthy and living a healthy lifestyle AND entertaining. Sherri, over at Fun Fit Flavor seems to have the art of healthy entertaining, so I think you’re in for a real treat. I’m so happy she agreed to help keep B2B active while I’m in Italy because I just love her blog! It’s down to earth and she always shares the most delicious looking recipes… and, I can always relate so much to the things she posts about (going out with friends, entertaining, creating delicious foods, working out and drinking lots of bubbly 😉 )! Enjoy!

Hi everyone! My name is Sherri and I write the blog, fun fit flavor. When Monique asked me to guest post while she basks in all of the gloriousness of Italy I, of course, said yes! Monique and I met through our friendship with New Balance and quickly realized that we have a lot in common; we both enjoy Prosecco, fitness, healthy food, and going out to eat. We both promote balance which, to me, is the core of wellness. Coinciding with that theme, today I’d like to share with you some tips for healthy entertaining. Entertaining is kind of my jam… I’m a Marketing Director by day and I’m part Italian so I love to feed people. For mother’s day, I set up shop at my mom’s house to create a relaxing, tasty/healthy, fun-filled day for my mom and sister. Here’s how it all went down!

First and foremost, appetizers! Instead of the typical veggie sticks and dip – I like to make deviled eggs, guacamole, and charcuterie. Now, I know meats & cheeses might not sound like the healthiest option, but, adding in options like olives, cornichons, prosciutto, and nuts really makes a nice assortment full of healthy fats and protein.

Here is my best Deviled Egg Recipe (they are a huuuuge hit with family & friends).

For the guac, do as follows:
– 3 ripe avocados
– 2 limes
– 1/4 cu sliced cherry or grape tomatoes
– 1 tbs finely chopped red onion or shallot
– salt/pepper to taste
(adjust as needed)

I started this process in the morning and after I completed the eggs, guac, and chicken marinade for dinner… I went upstairs to my parent’s awesome “workout room” for a very quick lift:
– 15×3 bench press
– 25×3 butterfly kick – abs
– 15×3 weighted goblet squats
– 12×3 roman chair back extensions (yes, my mom owns a roman chair!)
– 10X3 plank w/ feet on stability ball (pull ball in towards chest)

After that quick burn, I got to the rest of the cooking. First, caprese salad with avocado. Simply chop cherry or grape tomatoes, avocado, buffalo mozzarella, basil and drizzle with evoo and salt. For the protein, I marinated organic chicken breasts 3 ways; Cindy’s buffalo sauce, Cindy’s honey dijon sauce, and Sherri’s (hehe) lemon/garlic marinade. For the starch: potato salad made with evoo, celery, capers, red onion, red wine vinegar and just a tbs of organic mayo.

After we dabbled in Prosecco and appetizers – my dad took to the grill for the chicken. We put out the salads and enjoyed. For dessert, simple angel food cake, strawberries, and real whipped cream!

All in all, it was a great day. My mom and sister were able to enjoy their ‘day off’ and I got to do what I love in the kitchen. I like to make healthy food that doesn’t remind anyone that it’s actually healthy. We should all enjoy the flavors and things we love without sacrificing flavor – amiright?

That’s all I have for today! You can visit me over at fun fit flavor for more recipes and workouts similar to what’s listed above. Also, I don’t know about you guys, but, I am SO EXCITED to hear about Monique’s trip. I’ve always wanted to go to Italy, however, I haven’t been YET. I hope to go soon! Monique – please bring back some Prosecco & Prosciutto to share with the blogosphere! Have an amazing trip!

And I hope you all have a great week! xo
