Weekly Workouts

Is it really Monday already?! Sometimes I feel like I am more ready for Monday to come around than others, but today is definitely not one of those times. Between hosting Sara’s shower all day on Saturday, going out a little on Saturday night and going to my friend Christy’s surprise bridal shower yesterday, my weekend was a whirlwind and I feel like I didn’t get any down time (not that I am good with that anyway, but still). Don’t get me wrong, I had an absolute blast at all the events that I went to and I am definitely not complaining, but I could certainly use another day in my weekend, that’s all!

Let’s get to the workouts, shall we?

Last Week’s Workouts:

  • Monday- Hotel workout in NY and taught Dynamax
  • Tuesday- I took this as a total rest day, aren’t you proud?! I didn’t even do a lot of walking since I drove to work and I skipped out on the Triceps Tuesday April Arms Challenge workout. Since I was gone all weekend, I felt like I had too much other stuff to catch up on (laundry, picking up, organizing, cooking, blogging), so my workout took a back seat, and that’s totally fine!
  • Wednesday– Since I skipped my AAC workout on Tuesday and couldn’t figure out a good way to incorporate Wednesday’s workout into my class, I decided to do both of them before I taught. It.Was.Awesome. I ran 1.5 miles on the treadmill and then got busy with tri’s and bi’s and abs.

  • Thursday- Ran through Cambridge like a crazy bag lady, taught TBC (Supersets) and Kickboxing

012

  • Friday- Got up and did the burpee tabata from Thursday’s AAC workout and the Friday workout from AAC before work. It felt so good to be done my workout for the day by 8am!
  • Saturday- Got up and ran 1.5 miles and then did 2 circuits of the Sunday AAC workout (wanted to rest on Sunday and not Saturday) and did some extra core work.
  • Sunday- Walked 2 miles with Danielle and then gardened for about a half hour.

This Week’s Workouts

  • Monday- My own cardio & teaching Dynamax. It’s the first day of the new session and I am so excited!!
  • Tuesday- This might be a rest day, but if I can wake up and do something before work, I’ll do that.
  • Wednesday- Cardio and/or biceps blast before teaching UXF
  • Thursday- TBC (which, I recently learned is now called Shred or something. Not sure how I feel about that!) & Cardio Kickboxing
  • Friday- I might do a Deck of Cards workout before work, run during my lunch break, or go play in the UXF area at the Wellington BSC after work is over.
  • Saturday- Teaching Kickboxing at the YMCA. It’s been a few weeks and I’ve missed it! Can’t wait to remind them about what they’ve missed 😉 [insert evil laugh here]
  • Sunday- Rest! and gardening. I really want to get everything planted this weekend.

Your turn! What was your favorite workout last week? Any new moves or exercises to share?

Saturday’ing

Hey Friends! Happy Sunday! I tweeted this morning how happy I was that it was a bright, sunny morning and I am still smiling about that! The temp may not be that warm yet, but the forecast is looking good. I love a Sunday morning where I wake up feeling good (definitely tight from my workouts this week so I am happy today is a rest day! Haha, jk! I just checked my email and saw the that Athena sent us our weekly workouts for the April Arms Challenge so I have some 3-2-1 circuits to do!) and have a fairly open agenda for the day.  All I “have” to do is grocery shop and look for a dress to wear to my birthday party next weekend. Yes!

Thank you all so much for your comments on my post on Friday! It’s definitely a fine line you can cross when working out while you’re sick, so I am happy to see I am not the only one that struggles with it!

Friday night…

I taught my last class at the Allston BSC on Friday night… totally bittersweet:( I sure went out with a bang, though! 21 or 22 people came and it was so nice to see that most of them were my “regulars”.  They all had the kindest words for me after class and I am going to miss them so much!! Hopefully some will come to my Wednesday or Thursday classes at the Central Square BSC!

When I got home, I poured myself a glass of vino (I tweeted Jen to let her know that I was participating in Winesday Wednesday early!) and hung out with Danielle while she made pizza!

010Danielle decided she wanted to make buffalo chicken pizza AND a margarita pizza so I was pumped! I’m all for easy, simple pizzas, but it’s nice to have fancy ones every once in a while!

011

Drool-worthy, I know. It tasted even better than it looked! Post dinner, we watched Wednesday’s Nashville episode (anyone else watch this show?! How GOOD were the 2 girls at singing Ho Hey?! I might have cried a little…) and I was in bed by 10:30. I know, I act like I’m 80 years old with my early bed time!

Saturday

Yesterday was a busy, busy Saturday! Between teaching kickboxing and having two birthday parties on the agenda, I was pretty much non-stop all day! Kickboxing was an absolute blast!! Again, I had a huge group of members who like to work HARD. Every instructors dream, right?! I was also happy because Athena came! I had a to sneak a pic after we were done. Please pardon our sweaty, post workout appearance! I was so sweaty yesterday that my hands slipped on the ground when we were doing our last blast of the class (10 burpees to finish off our workout)!

012After class, I rushed home and showered because mom and Colleen and baby Emma were coming down for Rozzie’s 1st birthday party (my mom is obviously a social butterfly and her friends kids have had their own babies- Emma and Rozzie. Love those two to pieces!). I don’t have any pictures of Rozzie’s party, but it was perfectly pink and looked like it was right out of the Etsy homepage:) We did get to hang out with Emma… can you get enough of those cheeks?!

016(We were twinnies with our matching green pants!)

We had to leave Rozzie’s party early because it was Rachel’s birthday! In years past, Rachel and I celebrated our birthday’s together, which was always a blast, but now we celebrate separately which gives each of us our day to shine (We are both ridiculously obnoxious with our birthdays… forcing people to celebrate with us for the whole month!).

021Rachel is the hostess with the mostess and this party was no different! But, let’s be honest, as long as she has made her famous Sangria, the food is just an added bonus!

018Look at the treats!! mmmmm These things are pretty strong, so it was a good thing that we had loads of food!

019And most of you saw these on Instagram… SO good.

013It was so nice to catch up with so many friends and family yesterday! Feeling very  blessed today and know that feeling will stay with me for the rest of the week as it is BIRTHDAY WEEK!!!

Questions for you: How was your weekend so far? Anything fun to share? Do you have a lot of birthdays to celebrate this month, too?

12 Days of Fitness Workout…

… a little late! I did this workout right around the holidays and recently got a request to put it up on the blog, so here ya go!

The “12 Days of Fitness” workouts were flying around all over the blog world for a while, so I decided I had to try one and see what the craze was all about.  I did a bunch of research and ended up putting together, what I think to be, a pretty good workout!  Most of the “12 Days of Fitness” workouts that I saw started with the “1” move first and then worked their way up to the “12,” but I decided to start with the “12” and work out way down to the “1”.  What can I say? I wanted to make my class work harder:)

New 12 days of fitness

Yes, you did the math correctly: in this workout, you will do 144 lunges, 121 bicep curls, 100 mountain climbers… you get the point!

This workout can easily be done in the comforts of your own home… or at a gym with a friend! Let me know if you try it:)

Dynamax Workout 2.18.13

I love when my week starts on a Tuesday and not a Monday:)  Especially since my mom and cousin are coming to the city tonight… slumber partyyyy!

I wanted to share with you what we did in Dynamax last night.  I have a whole post designated to professing my love explaining my Dynamax class and what a Dynamax workout is all about, but until I finish that, I thought I’d share this workout since it can be done in pieces and with or without equipment!  If I were you, I would swing over to the Dynamax as it has loads of tips and workouts and instructions on how to use the balls… they are my FAVORITE exercise tool right now!

Dynamax 2/18/13-

Please note that this can be done with any type of medicine ball or weight if you do not have access to a Dynamax ball. Also, if you do not have access to a partner, skip the partner work.  Instead, maybe try 1 round of the Supersets, followed by 3 rounds of the 45 second moves, and end with another round of the supersets… This workout can be done in different pairings as you wish!

Dynamax 2.18.13

And then we ran out of time:) I know some of these moves might be a little confusing, so try putting them into YouTube or going to the Dynamax website! Also, I’m always available for questions… I hope to have pictures of these moves up on the blog soon:)

3-2-1 Strength, Cardio, Core Workout

Hey everyone! Happy President’s Day! I didn’t have today off as a holiday, but I took it off because I was in dire need of a little break! Last week was killer so it’s nice to know this week will be a little easier:)

I wanted to share with you a workout that I taught a couple of times last week (don’t worry, at different gyms!).  Both times I taught it, I remembered why the workout is so killer: 2 min HIIT cardio drills in between strength and abs.  The glares I got were awesome. Athena, the format of this is similar to this workout that you posted a while ago.

I had my sister take photo’s of me doing the moves since some of them aren’t as common.  This workout is intense, so mind your body and take rests and modify when/if you need to.

3-2-1 Strength, Cardio, Core Workout

Each strength move is performed for 3 minutes (usually 1 minute on each side and then 1 minute of a combined move), cardio is performed for 2 minutes (2 exercises performed in 30 second increments) and the core workout is performed for 1 minute.  Choose weights and modifications as you see fit- I want you to challenge yourself, but I also want you to be safe and mindful of your body!

3-2-1 Strength, Cardio, Core workout

Let me know if you try this workout!

I am so happy I took today off because I would NOT have wanted to have driven back to MA yesterday in the weather we had.  I made a Butternut Squash, Kale and Goat Cheese lasagna and hope to post that recipe tonight so be on the lookout!

Question for you: What are your plans today? Favorite thing to make for dinner? Let me know if you try this workout!
