This Week: Workouts, Countdown to Christmas & Things I’m Looking Forward To

Good morning! Can you believe this is the last full week before Christmas!?! I literally cannot wrap my head around it. But, the good news is I’ve completed almost all of my Christmas shopping, which is half the battle, right? I plan on finishing up a few more things this week and then packing my car up so I don’t forget anything when I head to Maine.

I had some good workouts last week, however none really left me sore or “feeling it” the next day. Well, except for the workout I did in RM’s kitchen on Tuesday morning. I had to make the workout as quiet as possible and therefore eliminated most cardio, but whatever I did seemed to work!

Last Week’s Workouts

  • Monday- I got up early and went to the gym on my own- a rarity, for sure! I ran 3 miles on the treadmill, completed my 1 minute of burpees and a few other upper body and core exercises. Although it’s never fun getting up and going to the gym at the 6am hour, I ALWAYS feel amazing after!

  • Tuesday- I got up early (again) and worked out in RM’s kitchen, as it seemed as though that would be the quietest place. I did a lot of punches, squats, lunges, core work, etc. It’s amazing how versatile workouts can be. I didn’t want to do cardio and didn’t have any weights, yet I was still able to put together a workout that left me sweaty and sore the next days. The challenge on Tuesday was a lower body workout, so I did Booty Burner #2″ workout. Never fails to leave me shaky ūüėČ
  • Wednesday- I only had time to run 2 miles before class, but I did most of my UXF Burn class as I liked the exercises I put together! The cardio blast between sets was killer.

IMG_9621

  • Thursday- I went to the gym near my office and completed a 15 minute HIIT workout before going to a total body conditioning class, which ended up being the same 45 seconds on, 15 seconds rest format that I did for my HIIT workout.

  • Friday- Rest day, besides lots of walking. I also got up for some stretching which was a nice way to start the day.

IMG_9629

  • Saturday- I taught my cardio kickboxing class at the Oak Square YMCA. Per usual, it was a packed class with lots of energy! Thanks for coming, Mary ūüôā
  • Sunday- Another rest day… cleaning was my source of active rest.

I got some new lulu and was excited to try it out!

This Week’s Workouts

  • Monday- I’m subbing the 6:30pm cardio kickboxing class at the Watertown BSC. Happy to get some extra subbing in as I’m losing my UXF Burn class for 2 weeks due to the holidays ūüė¶
  • Tuesday- I want to go to the morning Box 360 class at George Foreman’s boxing studio. Any fitness friends want to come? The challenge for Tuesday is to try a new workout class, so I figured this would be great.
  • Wednesday- A little cardio before teaching my UXF Burn class at the Central Square BSC. What should I teach?! Any new moves you’re loving?
  • Thursday- I think I have to do a day trip to Rhode Island for work, so I may try to get up early to get a little something in. Maybe rest. Maybe hit up a 6:30 cardio kickboxing class. We’ll see!
  • Friday- Today’s challenge is an upper body workout, so I’ll squeeze something in- maybe this 7 Minute Body Weight Upper Body Burner. I also have to go to a UXF Burn training for a few hours in the afternoon as they’re releasing a new format- can’t wait to see what it is.
  • Saturday- Teaching my last cardio kickboxing class of the year ūüė¶ I can’t believe it! Come sweat with me and jam out to my Christmas playlist!
  • Sunday- Rest day, besides a core workout as part of my challenge.

Things I’m Looking Forward To

Although this week is busy with lots of parties, teaching and maybe another road trip for work, I’m totally in the Christmas spirit and am just excited! I also know that I have an extended vacation coming up shortly, so that’s helping me make the last final push of the holiday season.

Questions for you: What was the best workout you had last week? Are you trying out any classes this week?

Weekly Workouts

Is it really Monday already?! Sometimes I feel like I am more ready for Monday to come around than others, but today is definitely not one of those times. Between hosting Sara’s shower all day on Saturday, going out a little on Saturday night and going to my friend Christy’s surprise bridal shower yesterday, my weekend was a whirlwind and I feel like I didn’t get any down time (not that I am good with that anyway, but still). Don’t get me wrong, I had an absolute blast at all the events that I went to and I am definitely not complaining, but I could certainly use another day in my weekend, that’s all!

Let’s get to the workouts, shall we?

Last Week’s Workouts:

  • Monday- Hotel workout in NY and taught Dynamax
  • Tuesday- I took this as a total rest day, aren’t you proud?! I didn’t even do a lot of walking since I drove to work and I skipped out on the Triceps Tuesday April Arms Challenge workout. Since I was gone all weekend, I felt like I had too much other stuff to catch up on (laundry, picking up, organizing, cooking, blogging), so my workout took a back seat, and that’s totally fine!
  • Wednesday– Since I skipped my AAC workout on Tuesday and couldn’t figure out a good way to incorporate Wednesday’s workout into my class, I decided to do both of them before I taught. It.Was.Awesome. I ran 1.5 miles on the treadmill and then got busy with tri’s and bi’s and abs.

005

  • Thursday- Ran through Cambridge like a crazy bag lady, taught TBC¬†(Supersets) and Kickboxing

012

  • Friday-¬†Got up and did the burpee tabata from Thursday’s AAC workout and the Friday workout from AAC before work. It felt so good to be done my workout for the day by 8am!
  • Saturday- Got up and ran 1.5 miles and then did 2 circuits of the Sunday AAC workout (wanted to rest on Sunday and not Saturday) and did some extra core work.
  • Sunday- Walked 2 miles with Danielle and then gardened for about a half hour.

This Week’s Workouts

  • Monday- My own cardio & teaching Dynamax. It’s the first day of the new session and I am so excited!!
  • Tuesday- This might be a rest day, but if I can wake up and do something before work, I’ll do that.
  • Wednesday-¬†Cardio and/or biceps blast before teaching UXF
  • Thursday-¬†TBC (which, I recently learned is now called Shred or something. Not sure how I feel about that!) & Cardio Kickboxing
  • Friday-¬†I might do a Deck of Cards workout before work, run during my lunch break, or go play in the UXF area at the Wellington BSC after work is over.
  • Saturday- Teaching Kickboxing at the YMCA. It’s been a few weeks and I’ve missed it! Can’t wait to remind them about what they’ve missed ūüėČ [insert evil laugh here]
  • Sunday- Rest! and gardening. I really want to get everything planted this weekend.

Your turn! What was your favorite workout last week? Any new moves or exercises to share?

Remember Me?

Hey everyone! I am back! So sorry to ditch out for an extended amount of time, but let me tell you, it was needed. After the events that went on in Boston last week, and the fact that I was going to NYC for the weekend for another birthday celebration (I know. I’m out of control), I figured taking some time to step away from the computer, twitter, facebook, instagram, etc. and spend that time with friends and family was way more important (and SO necessary).

social media break

But, I am here now and have lots of recapping to do, that’s for darn sure!

035(Blogging during my lunch break. So happy to be back to healthy, non restaurant eats!)

Before I get too much into my recapping, let’s check in with last week’s workouts, shall we?

  • Monday-¬†I was all amped up to get in a run before teaching Dynamax, but after hearing about the bombings, I felt numb and wanted nothing to do with the gym. I thought I had to teach and I ended up getting to the gym early, so I hopped on an elliptical and mindlessly peddled away as I watched the news unfold. I didn’t even break a sweat. My body was there, but my mind wasn’t. I felt foolish for being one of “those” people at the gym, and wanted to tell everyone I was only there because I had to teach. Luckily, only 3 members showed up and none of them felt like working out either, so we decided to part ways and pick up this week.
  • Tuesday– My parents were coming into the city to celebrate my birthday, so I got up and did a sweaty jump rope & body weight circuit workout. I was going to post the workout¬†on Friday, but clearly that didn’t happen. I’ll post it this week- promise! I also did lots of walking with my parents!

016

  • Wednesday-¬†I ran a little over 2 miles outside through Cambridge (so scary to think about that!) before I taught UXF Burn. Classes were still a bit down, but I was happy to have some people show up.
  • Thursday- Taught my double at Central Square. We did a stations workout¬†in TBC¬†and a high cardio format in kickboxing. I didn’t even DO all of the workout in TBC, but I was seriously so sore on Friday. (I also want to say that looking back, it is so crazy to think that I was just doors away from the 7-11 robbery¬†only a few hours before it happened. That hit really close to home.)
  • Friday- While we were in lockdown, my roommate and I got antsy and when I suggested that she do my Friday April Arms Challenge workout, she happily agreed. We did 3 rounds with 5 minutes of cardio in between each round. We also did some plank high fives that I learned from Jen. Loved these!

001

  • Saturday- LOTS of walking in NYC!

008

  • Sunday-¬†We went jogging in Central Park which was the coolest thing everrrr. But, what made it even better was the fact that there was a BostonStrong race taking place as we got there! I got so emotional seeing everyone running to support Boston, my city.

This week’s workouts

  • Monday- I was still in NY, so we hit up the hotel gym in the morning. I had to do my April Arms Challenge workout and then did some other stuff. I also taught Dynamax when I got home and was happy that there was an even number of people in class so I didn’t have to really “do” the workout.
  • Tuesday (today)- Nothing besides my triceps workout for the April Arms Challenge. I need to get my life in order! Laundry, cooking, picking up, blogging, etc. Taking a break is nice, but catching up after the break is really not that fun (for me, at least).
  • Wednesday– Cardio & teaching UXF Burn
  • Thursday-¬†Double time! TBC & Kickboxing
  • Friday– I will probably take Friday’s AAC workout and incorporate some cardio.¬† I might also rest if I end up signing up for a BostonStrong¬†5K in Southie this weekend (can’t find the link now!).
  • Saturday– Some type of at-home workout. Maybe deck of cards?! We are hosting Amy’s sister’s baby shower at our place on Saturday afternoon so I know we will be busy getting everything ready for that!
  • Sunday- Maybe a 5K, maybe a rest day.

Questions for you: How did you react to the events last week? Did it make you want to work out more to “escape”? or, did you lack motivation?¬†

I’ll be back with¬†more regular blogging tomorrow! Have a wonderful Tuesday, friends:)

Weekly Workouts

It’s that time again! Time to check in with our workouts from last week to see how we did!

Last Week

[I may not mention it, but just know that I did all of the week 1 workouts in the April Arm Challenge.]

  • Monday- I jogged a nice & easy¬†3 miles (in about 26:30).¬† The weather¬†was so nice! I ran in a tank and got tan lines:) I also did 20 minutes on¬†the elliptical¬†and 10 mins of abs at the Y before teaching Dynamax since I had so much extra time to spare.
  • Tuesday- Ended up walking about 3 miles and did Triceps Tuesday!
  • Wednesday-¬†Wasn’t feeling well so I just did a light 15 minutes on the elliptical and taught UXF Burn

uxf class

  • Thursday-¬†Taught an “Up the Ladder” workout (workout to come this week)¬†and Kickboxing

me after a double

  • Friday- Did the 15 minute “Friday Five” arm workout, 15 minutes on a cardio machine and taught a mix of all my favorites in class! Workout will be posted this week I think.
  • Saturday- Taught kickboxing at the YMCA. BIG group and Athena came!

012

  • Sunday- I’ve been a busy bee so far, but I am just about to do the 3-2-1 April Arms Challenge Day 1 of Week 2 workout.

This Week

  • Monday- the usual: Cardio & Teaching Dynamax. Oh! And it’s Pyramid Push-Up day:)
  • Tuesday- Triceps Tuesday and walking in the city
  • Wednesday- Cardio & Teaching Dynamax
  • Thursday- TBC and Kickboxing
  • Friday- NO TEACHING!! I will probably do a Deck of Cards workout during my lunch break. I think I’ll want to get a few drinks when the work day is over to kick off my birthday weekend:)
  • Saturday- Teaching my 3rd straight week of kickboxing at the YMCA. I won’t be there for 2 weeks after Saturday, so we will work extra hard (just giving my YMCA’ers a heads up!)
  • Sunday- likely nursing a hangover ūüėČ Sunday is my actual birthday, so I’ll want to do something fun… but that might not be exercise related (and that’s ok!)

Sorry my weekly workout plans are so boring, but when I have all my workouts basically planned out for me because of my teaching schedule, that’s just how it has to be. Now that my schedule has lightened up, I’ll hopefully have a more exciting workout schedule each week (at least on my “off” days from teaching!).

Questions for you: What are your workouts like this week? How did you do last week? Have any good ones to share?

Is the Weekend Already?

Hey there! Anyone else doing the happy Friday dance? Actually, that’s a lie, I haven’t done the dance because today feels like anything BUT a Friday.¬† With all the travel I have been doing lately, I can’t seem to keep my days straight, and the fact that I had to get up, straighten my hair, put on a suit and go into the office (I work from home on Fridays so my dress code is generally nothing more than pj’s or Lulu) was what really threw me for a loop.

interview(old pic from last year, but I looked exactly like this today… except I wore a skirt because I am ALL about the skirt suits lately! Also, pardon the mess in the background. I swear I am neater than that!)

I had a meeting with a prospective client today, hence the need for going into the office and dressing in non-Lulu attire.

Speaking of Lululemon, has anyone else seen that they have expanded their bathing suit line?!?! Ugh. This is not good for me! But, to be honest with you, the prices are actually more reasonable than I expected, and these ones have SPF50+ protection built into them. I would like to find a store to try one on before I buy one- has anyone seen these at the store lately?

Lulu top lulu back

source, source

(for anyone who is taking notes- I’m probably a size 2 or 4 on the top and a 4 on the bottom… any color is fine… ūüėČ )

And, I think I finally found the gym bag I have been looking for!

lulu bag source

I’ve been on the hunt for something that is durable, stylish, and can handle a heavy load (laptop, lunch bag, gym clothes, workout binder, etc), and I think this could be it! I need to check it out in person, though.

Back to yesterday… I get so side-tracked when I talk about Lulu!

My friend JP and I went to lunch at Papagayo¬†yesterday and I had forgotten how good it is there! The only unfortunate thing about going there for a work day lunch is that I can’t enjoy a tasty margarita! (ok, I guess I could have one, but I would not feel right about it- Catholic guilt!) My meal made up for it, though.¬† I got the Veggie Enchiladas and was really impressed with the amount of veggies in them!

papagayo

Not long after lunch, I had to leave for the day to take care of this:

ticketUgh, What a thing to find when I walked to my car yesterday morning. It was my fault that I forgot to get my car inspected, but I mean, I was PARKED… how can they ticket for that?! And for $50? Common, City of Somerville. The only plus side of this is that the Acura¬†dealership waived the inspection fee for me since I bought my car there last year.

I ended up getting to the gym with about an hour and a half to spare before it was time to teach my kickboxing class.¬† Since I wanted to get some strength training in, I decided to take the TBC¬†class prior to teaching my class. Felt great to have a long gym sesh¬†in after two weeks of travel.¬† As good as the TBC¬†class was, my kickboxing class was AMAZING (however, eating a Mexican lunch was NOT the brightest idea before a double session workout)… there were 20 REALLY hard workers and I can’t even tell you how happy that makes me.¬† When I took over this class back in the fall, it was a Cardio Conditioning class and only averaged about 6-8 people per week.¬† Now that the word has gotten out that it’s kickboxing, more and more people have been coming every week (and, boy does it make it easier to teach when people know how I teach and know some of the moves!). Love it!

Phew! Did you make it this far?

When I got home from class tonight (definitely going to share the workout that we did with you– great mix of cardio and strength and the time flew by!), I made pizza!¬† My favorite Friday night meal.¬† I didn’t take a picture, but it looked similar to this.

024Mmm. It’s just so good! And even though it’s pizza, you’re definitely saving calories by making it yourself vs. ordering out.

Tomorrow morning is my first weekend of teaching Cardio Kickboxing at the Oak Square YMCA- can’t wait!¬†The class is packed and the energy is high… get ready YMCA members- we are going to work hard tomorrow:)

Questions for you: Favorite meal to make? What are your weekend plans?
